The Ghost of Sis Linn

I learned something truly creepy about Glenville State College yesterday.

Daniel dragged me back behind Louis Bennett Hall to the Old Glenville Cemetery. When they built the school, it wasn’t as big as it is now, so the campus has sort of absorbed the whole thing.

I hope they didn’t build over a few graves and only moved the headstones.

You can’t go an entire October at GSC without hearing about Sis Linn’s ghost, but Daniel had outdone himself and did a little actual research. Her grave is right there — where anyone can see it — and what happened to her was horrible.

They say she’s been haunting the campus almost a hundred years looking for her unknown killer. Clark Hall now stands where her old house used to be, where most of the education stuff I do takes place.

I’m not superstitious, nor do I go around avoiding the spirits of the departed, but her story affected me… making me feel a little less safe.

There’s no such thing as ghosts, but now I feel bad for Sis Linn and I don’t think it’s appropriate to champion her as the local Halloween Queen. She was a victim, and I think that’s been lost upon everyone.
